Description

This no prep activity packet for 4th, 5th and 6th grade will have your students multiplying and dividing whole numbers using real Thanksgiving data. Students calculate the ingredients needed to make a pumpkin pie larger than the current world record-holding pumpkin pie and calculate how many pounds of grain it would take to feed the turkeys their family will eat in a year. We also included some fun questions they can research with answers provided in the key. Engage your students during the holidays with seasonal word problems.

Perfect for centers, morning work, early finisher work, review or enrichment depending on the needs in your classroom.

Skills students will practice:

•graphing

•multiplication of whole numbers

•division of whole numbers

•mathematical reasoning

The level of challenge will vary depending on whether or not you allow them to use a calculator.

Information is for 2013, it might be nice to update it for 2015 or 2016. Otherwise, it is a fun creative resource for Thanksgiving!

Absolutely! I will update as the statistics become available. Of course I can't use the current year statistics to publish prior to thanksgiving but in many cases data lagged by a couple of years. You have inspired me to do some research and add some exercises that compare earlier years to more recent years as the data becomes available. Thank you!
