Description

This engaging resource will teach your U.S. Government students about voting rights, voter turnout, and voter demographics in America. Students will work in groups and progress through four different stations. Each station covers a different aspect of voting.

Station 1: Voting Rights/History

Station 2: Voter Turnout

Station 3: Voter Demographics

Station 4: Debate About Compulsory Voting

Students will need a device that will allow them to access a number of different websites. Links and QR codes included. They will watch a short video, analyze online charts and graphs, read articles, discuss as a group, and more. I have included a warm-up to start off the class period, as well as a list of links students will need to access. Also included is a 4-page student handout that they will complete as they complete each station, along with an answer key teachers can use for easy use and assessment. The student handout comes in both an editable word document, as well as a fillable PDF, so students can easily complete it in person or online.

This lesson engages students in the topics, requires them to think critically, and creates great discussions! This resource is perfect for any College Prep/General US Government class or any AP® U.S. Government and Politics course. I have specifically included AP® standards regarding voting rights/political participation in this lesson.
