Description

It's January and wintertime! Here’s another great way to integrate winter studies with a terrific STEM challenge! Using only two materials, students build an igloo model and problem-solve through the challenging roof and doorway! Your kids will love this challenge, and you will love the ease of setting it up!

What is the challenge?

  • Build a model of an igloo.
  • Students will only have a few materials, but must still collaborate well in order to make the best use of those supplies.
  • They need to make a circular igloo with a domed roof and an opening with a tunnel.
  • The supplies are easy to gather and the prep is super simple!

What is your prep?

You will need supplies in addition to this package. This includes cotton balls, packing peanuts, cardboard tubes, index cards- two sizes, toothpicks, and paper plates.

The package specifically includes:

  • Cover
  • Teacher background
  • Materials and preparation page
  • 8 pages of teacher directions
  • Constraints list in two versions
  • 4 pages of photographs
  • Lab sheet
  • Extra page of information about the igloos
  • Scoring rubric
  • Terms of Use

➡️All forms are provided in an editable format. Student answer sheets are not included, but samples from student work are included in the teacher direction pages. The page count listed for this package includes everything.

This challenge will need 1-2 class sessions to complete.
