Into the Wild by John Krakauer is my favorite book of all time! It is nonfiction, similar to Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. (Similar in that Krakauer presents a nonfiction tale artfully so it feels more like fiction than nonfiction.) I

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 22 years teaching experience. Two of those years were for grades 7 and 8; 20 have been at the high school level. I have taught and currently teach a variety of Language Arts and Literature classes. New in 2015--my blog for teachers plus an online resources store: http://room257.wix.com/room257. I'd be thrilled if you checked it out and subscribed to the feed! I plan to focus on best practices and advice for new teachers and student teachers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style centers on high levels of student engagement and challenging but fair material. I feel most successful when my students' curiosities are stimulated. As a result, I'm always hunting for new materials to help enrich my lessons! I often draw on current research and documentaries. The topic that has ignited my fire this year is that of "grit." Other recent topics of interest to me are food politics, the Arab Spring, the Occupy Movement(s), the science of happiness, and the psychology of survival. I find ways to tie these topics to the literature units that I teach. I welcome emails if you'd like to know more!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was teacher of the year for my high school in 2006. That was an amazing honor! The greatest honor for me, though, is when students said they liked my class or learned so much from me. I am especially proud when students go on to become English teachers! I have been published in the English Journal and have been used as a source for Edutopia.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from SIU-Carbondale in 1992 with a degree in English Education. I have taken graduate coursework in Literature at SIU-E, Washington University and Governor's State University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Not only am I a teacher, but I'm also a small-business owner, a wife, and a mother of two. My dream is to someday buy a little house in the country, raise a little garden and some chickens, and ride horses. About my pricing--I know that my pricing may be a little higher than other teachers selling on this site. Please know, however, that what you are getting are products that have been refined and edited over several years' time. A great deal of time, effort and revision has gone into the products I sell. I am deeply grateful that you have chosen my work over what else is available, and I am confident that it will be valuable to you for years to come. If you are just starting out as a teacher, or have taught for many years, you will find my products valuable (and hopefully inspiring) additions to your courses. Sincerely, thank you for visiting my store. I would be thrilled if you subscribed to my teaching blog: http://room257.com/room257. I plan to add an online store there, so you can find even more resources there! XO, Meredith
