About the store

Experience

Reading Through History is brought to you by two individuals, Jake Henderson and Robert Marshall. They have both been classroom teachers at the high school and middle school levels since 1999, bringing over 50 years of combined experience.

Teaching style

Robert and Jake have each developed their own unique styles featuring self-made PowerPoints, Youtube videos, assignments, and lectures. They have both done countless hours of research to make history come alive for their students.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In 2023, Jake was named the Teacher of the Year for his district, and went on to become one of ten finalists for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year for 2024.

My own education history

Robert graduated from Butler High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree in History Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Jake graduated from Enid High School and then earned both a bachelor’s degree, as well as a Master’s degree, in History Education, also from SWOSU.

Additional biographical information

Jake has written five novels for adolescents. Two of these, Ryan’s Crossing and Original Spin, are historical fiction. Robert has written a historical fiction novel for adults, The Ashes of Our Fathers, which focuses on the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War.
