An in class project for middle school math with differentiation and rubric provided. Aligned to 7th grade NYS and Common Core math standards. Students survey to collect data and represent the data in a circle graph. The pizza theme makes it easy to let the students decorate their graph accordingly; makes a great bulletin board display! The project is differentiated with two tiers. The less challenging project has fewer categories and more explicit directions and examples. The students will

In this activity students will create a greeting card that uses different function curves to decorate an Easter egg. Directions: On the front of the card (the side with the coordinate grid), you will be drawing graphs of functions that we have learned in class. The back side will include your name and the equations for each of your graphs. Be sure to color code each equation and its graph so that they are easy to identify. Your egg will need to include the following functions and how many of ea

Motivate the students on Halloween to learn how to find and use range, mode, and median. Students will use individual M&Ms bags to estimate and count their candy. They will find the range, mode, and median of the bag and then transfer them to a bar graph. Additionally, a class-wide graph can be created to see the numbers on a larger scale. Bundle includes: 7-Step Lesson Plan, Task, 4th Grade CA Content Standards, Rubric, and colorful bulletin board title with graphics.

I use this lesson as a summative authentic assessment for the Economic concepts of the Laws of Supply and Demand, Supply and Demand Curves, and Market Price (Equilibrium). I divide my students into groups of 3-4 and have them create their own unique soda, product slogan, and graph the given supply and demand schedules to find the Market Price for their new soda. This lesson requires poster paper, markers/colored pencils, and rulers and will take about an hour to complete. This lesson inclu

This book has all of the pages that will be needed to create a bulletin board that will remain up all year long. Part of the bulletin board will stay all year while one section changes each month with a new graph assignment. The assignments are designed for students to gather data and record the data on a table then a graph. Students will be making bar graphs, line graphs, histograph, box and whisker plots and a scatter plot. Each assignment has an assignment sheet, a table and a rubric.

Conic Card Sort (and Optional Poster Project)

This card sort (with optional poster project) was designed for my algebra 2 class. The cards include the standard equations, key parts of each equation/graph, example equations, example key points, and example graphs. The students will need to sort them into one of the following categories: absolute value, parabola, circle, ellipses, or hyperbola. (Although absolute value is not a conic section I placed it here for my class in an effort to fit all necessary information into our time frame.) The

FINALLY! A decent number line for teaching positive and negative numbers and beginning addition and subtraction of integers. Really, this is the bomb. I have used it. Simple but not too simple, big enough to see, enough numbers to help learn to add and subtract, but not enough to take up all the wall space you have. Print and cut into rows of three numbers each.....then just tack them up. All done! Comes with a sign about how signs interact in operations. This is a large font posi

Dilation Art Project - No Technology!

Let your students enjoy a tech-free arts-integrated project! After you have taught the concept of dilations, this art project is such a great one as a mathy mental health break for students AND teachers - combining geometric transformations seamlessly with art. I have loved using this project: *as an artistic diversion from the math class norm and a creative outlet for students *to reinforce dilations – as part of the geometric transformations unit or later in t

Mental and Physical Morning Check In **Add your Bitmoji!**

Sometimes kids aren’t really ready for the day. Sometimes teachers aren’t really ready for the day, am I right? Use this poster as a quick check in with your kids. Knowing how they’re coming in can make all the difference. When your kiddos come in in the morning, make it part of the routine for them to grab a post it, write their name on the back (so it won’t be visible on the front) and put their post it in the correct coordinate square (Oh hey! This is also a fun way to practice coordinate gra
