I typically use this file as a music center in small groups. I project it on my whiteboard and give the students an extra large Styrofoam dice block. I place the SO hint to the left of the treble clef on whatever space I want to use that day. Each student takes a turn rolling the die, using the chart, writing the corresponding solfege on the lines underneath the music staff, and then writing the pitch in quarter notes on the music staff. This is a lesson that introduces notes on the bass staff, as well as B above the staff and middle C. After an introduction to the staff, a 30-card quiz is used to reinforce the note names. Students identify the note shown by writing the answer on a line, then remove the screen shade to reveal the correct answer. This is great for both individual and group work, and can be made into a competitive or non-competitive game as needed.

A rhythmic SMART Notebook activity testing student knowledge in recognizing sixteenth note rhythms.
