Middle School / High School Welcome Letter

Download this free Middle School / High School Welcome Letter from Mrs. Reekie's Classroom today! Welcome letters are a wonderful and common practice in elementary school classrooms, yet are rarely seen in secondary classroom. I believe that welcome letters are equally, if not more, necessary for secondary classrooms. My welcome letter provides me the opportunity to introduce my classroom and myself to parents, since their child may not relay the message. Welcome letters are also a great opp

Pink Slip - for missing homework

This is a strategy I got from Harry Wong (great presenter and author!). It's called a Pink Slip, and students fill it out whenever they do not have their homework. I don't listen to excuses, I just have them fill out the form, and I'll look at it later to see what their excuse is. I keep these on file, and they have come in handy for parent conferences (especially if a student is saying they didn't have time to do their homework due to sports or something or the sort).

Last year I created a "form" for students to fill-out when they did not have their weekly Homework ready to turn in on Friday. This helped me when conferencing with parents. When the child had zeros on a progress report, I could easily take out the HW excuse forms filled in by the student. It did help the students feel more accountable. You'll need to tweek it to your needs. Enjoy!

This sheet is a great way for students to reflect in their performance and help them set targeted goals for themselves! This should be given to them after a mid-unit quiz so they can set goals for their performance on a unit assessment. You can see on the second page, or like I use it: the back of the sheet, I provide the standard(s) being assessed and instead of setting a goal like "I will improve from 60% to 80% in standard 7.EE.B.4a by....." students should use the description and verbiage of

It was messy and crazy keeping up with a new sheet of paper ea

I am having my students record their test scores throughout the year to ensure they are learning. This allows the students to practice creating bar graphs (or a line graph) so we can see where the students scores are and where we want them to be. We do not graph the STAAR scores, but we do put them on the top of the page for each student. The students are required to keep each test in a folder in my classroom so we can go over any test at any time. Re-takes of the test are only recorded if the s
