Student Behavior Self-Reflection Tool (Dichotomous Rubric)
This is a dichotomous rubric for students to rate their behavior.
My students complete this form (as a "ticket out") each time that they have a substitute. This gives each student a voice and personal accountability for their behavior. It also provides me with data for when I return to class.
While I am in the classroom, I have students complete this reflection tool as the need arises.

Independent Reading Rubric
My first year teaching in New York City, I taught ninth grade ESL and ELA to students who were not only new to the US, but also new to school. Many of them came into the school system from Latin America and the Caribbean with very little literacy. This independent reading rubric, with concrete categories and points to earn was to the key to my sanity and to my students feeling successful in school. Simple, but effective, this rubric can be a great edition to your classroom.

Collaboration Rubric for Group Discussions Common Core 7th grade
This rubric can be used for daily group discussions. The rubric uses the Common Core State Standards for Speaking and Listening with a focus on Collaboration. The first rubric is a stand alone rubric, two per page, to make fewer copies. The second rubric has the rubric at the top and a class roster that is editable so you can use the rubric as you facilitate your class discussions by walking around the room and checking on groups.

This is the gradesheet /rubric I use for compare/contrast essays. Points are given for thesis statement, title, introduction, topic sentences of body paragraphs, organization (point by point or block format), transitions, conclusion, point of view and spelling/grammar. I also use this as a peer review. Students exchange papers in groups and complete the grade sheet for their partner(s). I like to do a round robin so students read 2-3 other essays. If done well, it will take about 30 minutes.
