Instrument Challenges
I created these specific instrument challenges for each of our middle school band sections and by grade level (5-8). You can adapt and change this template as you see fit. The goal is to create some competition to motivate the students to practice specific skills outside of class. I award gold/silver/bonze stickers for the winner of each challenge. At the end of the year, the student in each section with the most wins receives a gold/silver/bronze special coin!

Filming Code of Conduct
This filming code of conduct I give to my students on their first lesson for the year. We read it together and then the students sign it. This is then kept in the front of their Media file to refer back to if/when they have questions or are breaking a rule. A copy of this is also emailed home to all parents.

Color Coded Band Seating Chart
This is a fully editable word doc to create 6 different seating charts for each of your band ensembles. Changing seats gives students a push to be independent and hear different things. Participation Challenge
I use this in my 7th grade ELA class to challenge students to participate. This encourages them to be repsectful to other students talking, raising their hands and not shouting out the answers, and to particpate more in the classroom. When they do the following, they will earn a sticker. At the end of the week, if they have all 5 stickers they will choose from the prize box.

Guitar String Inventory Database
This is an automated guitar database. There are three empty locations listed and you can add more if needed. This database can be useful in indicating and ordering classical guitar, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar string inventory.

Music Seating and Grading Chart
This is a seating chart that can also be used to take a weekly content grade, behavior grade or even just attendance. It is organized into 9 weeks. You can specify the skill that was tested for each of the nine weeks, or even use the key to make a grading code that corresponds to certain behaviors. Learning an Instrument
This is a little powerpoint I put together to help my students stay true to their instrument goals and to help me keep track of it all for easy access. It also helps them to see other student's goals because it keeps them accountable for what they are learning as well as challenges them to reach for goals they may not have otherwise tried. It is also good for them because they can ask students with similar goals if they want to learn with them, or create a band. My 6th graders LOVED it.

Flexible Grouping Planning Sheet
I used this in the formative assessment process to determine who will be in which group for a particular skill. I differentiate by readiness using some sort of pre-assessment then I use this form to figure out how I will group the students the next day. Usually, the lowest group is with me doing some reteaching and the high group is doing more challenging versions of the assignment. The middle group is working together on the assignment and I check in with them as needed.
