The fundamental theorem of arithmetic states that any number can be factored to a set of primes. Using prime numbers up to the square root of a number can be used to determine if a number is prime or composite. The square root of 100 is 10. SO using the prime numbers 2,3,5, and 7, a student can determine if a number is prime or composite. This is the recommended order that the basic addition and subtraction facts should be taught. I have PowerPoints that teach each set of these basic facts conceptually.
