Identifying Variables Lab

A lab designed to show students how variables are used in an experiment. I use this when I am teaching what variables are and how they work in an experiment. This lab has students compare increasing amounts of clacium chloride with water temperature. Students also read the research and steps to create a hypothesis using If and Then. An answer key for the graph set up and experimental design is included. Sample answers for observations are also included.

Significant Figures, Accuracy, & Precision Lab Activity

Created by
Volkamania
This simple activity helps students learn how precision and accuracy are used in science with significant figures. It also helps students learn a little dimensional analysis and percent error along the way (which is a nice bonus). All you need is a ruler with centimeters and a 3x5 index card. I use this activity as a lead in to my HS Chemistry Chapter 3 Unit on Sig Fig's but it would work with any science class covering precision and accuracy.

Science Stars
Support students in conducting a detailed hands-on practical investigation to explore how pulley systems change the force required to lift a load. Students investigate how increasing the number of pulleys affects both the effort force and the distance the rope is pulled. This resource helps students develop a deep understanding of mechanical advantage and the key concept that simple machines involve a trade-off between force and distance. Students compare single, double, and triple pulley

Metric System DENSITY Lab Activity with graphing and a CER

Created by
Nicole Bailey
This is a density lab that includes finding the density of some common classroom items by determining the mass and volume. The second part, students will find the mass and volume of an increasing number of marbles. They will graph this data, find the slope, and use that to determine density. There is a CER, asking students if the density changes when the amount of the material changes. Students will also get practice using a balance, a graduated cylinder, and doing displacement to find volume

Meat Quality Lab Activity | Aging, pH, Color & Cook Loss | HS Meat Science Ag Ed

Students get their hands on three beef samples — fresh, 7-day wet-aged, and 14-day wet-aged — and find out for themselves what aging actually does to pH, color, and cook loss. They calculate percent moisture loss, answer five analysis questions connecting their data to the biochemistry from the unit, and write a professional industry memo recommending an aging protocol to a plant manager. Can run as a live cooking lab or as a data analysis activity using the teacher-provided hypothetical dataset
