Thanksgiving Edition Grocery Store Math
Students need to use a grocery store flyer to shop for an entire Thanksgiving meal. Each category has pictures straight from the grocery store flyer. I used Market Basket this week, but almost all of these items are also for sale in Shaws and Stop & Shop, as well. I made it a Word document, so you can easily replace the images if you want! Using the NCAA Men's March Madness tournament, I have students keeps stats, figure percentages, and compare numbers while getting a chance to watch a game in class and following it to the end. This will also work for the Woman's NCAA March Madness tournament.

This project asks students to write a business proposal for a bank to look at to decide if the bank wants to fund it. Students brainstorm, calcualte expenses, caluclate profits and decide on the amount of money they would need to start their business(es). Finding Circumference/Diameter/Radius using Oatmeal Cream Pies
Students use string and ruler to calculate circumference, diameter, and radius of oatmeal cream pies. There are extension calculation questions at the end to assess students' understanding of circumference formulas. This is a great activity for 4th-8th graders learning about circumference and the best part, students have a lot of fun doing this! This guiding worksheet has clear instructions and students will be able to complete it independently with little or no guidance from the teacher.
