Pi Day Coloring Activity: Pi Skyline. Create your own round version of Pi Cityscape to make a mural, door decoration, or bulletin board display. Let your students express themselves using these hands-on Math & Art resources during the exploration of Pi.Write the next digits of Pi in the sections outside the circle. Mark the height of the bars using the ruler provided so that each bar corresponds to one digit of Pi.Then color the bars to create a round city skyline (colored/black/rainbow).

Scatterplot Project Using Real Data
Students are asked to find an example of time-series data in which the dependent variable (y) varies linearly with time (X). The data should have a strong positive or negative correlation. Students will be asked to:
Make a scatter plot of the data.
Use a straight edge to draw a line of best fit.
Find the equation of the line where they must show work for how they determined this.
Use their equation to predict the value of the variable in 2012 and 2018.

Graphing Project: Free Rice Competition
The Free Rice Graphing Project was developed to provide an alternative to an in-class test for a graphing unit and allow students to use real data to create a data table, stem-and-leaf plot, and graph. Included in the package is a parent letter with a description of the project, a data chart for students to collect information, and a rubric to grade the final project.

Desmos Drawings Functions Project | Algebra 1 and 8th Grade Math | End of Year!
This is a wonderful multi-day project I have used for the past two years with my 8th grade math and honors Algebra 1 students! It is low-prep, takes around four 60-minute class periods, and is perfect for the end of the year after testing. Students select an image to trace in the free, online Desmos graphing calculator.
