About the store
I have 31 years of teaching experience, 14 years in elementary 17 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. 17 years later I returned to elementary school where I am currently a math professional development coach in grades K-5. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.

Angles ~ Complementary, Supplementary, Vertical & Adjacent ~ Common Core 7.G
Notes + coloring activity containing two pages of scaffolded notes with hints on how students can remember each of the angle types. The third page contains 12 problems, 8 of which require the students to color different angle pairs as well as answer questions regarding angle measures.
I created this document because I saw so many of my students not "seeing" complementary & supplementary angles within intersecting lines. This is a great visual for students.

Writing Equations From Word Problems ~ Common Core 7.EE 6.EE
Two different worksheets, one on writing one step equations from word problems and one on writing two step equations from real world situations. Students are asked to define variables on each of the worksheets. As an extension, students can then solve those equations.

This is a real life activity/project where students must make decisions about purchases now that they're "on their own." Students write and solve 2 step equations to see what the monthly payments would be for certain TVs, refrigerators, laptop computers and cars. Based on the budgeted amount, students decide which objects they can afford. One problem includes percents of numbers. Transformations ~ Stained Glass Project - 8.G.A.3
This challenging, high student interest activity quickly allows you to see if your students have mastered all 4 transformations (translations, rotations, reflections & dilations) on a coordinate plane. There are 20 problems consisting mostly of muti-step transformations. Students can either use a rule to find the image points, given the pre-image, or they can manually perform the transformations on a "scrap" sheet of graph paper.
Once all 20 transformations are plotted, students then color in

Students see how simplifying expressions using the order of operations is related to solving two-step equations. Order of operations is like putting your socks on, then your shoes (multiply/divide then add/subtract). There are several ways to use the cards/items listed in the document (pairs check, independent practice, game, etc). Order of Operations Notes + Guided Practice Worksheet
This download includes two pages of notes introducing order of operations using G.E.M.S. and Mr. Multiplication/Division & Ms. Addition/Subtraction and one page of guided practice problems that include decimals. I've found this strategy to be really helpful when reinforcing that those operations are to be completed left to right. Two of the problems contain decimals which makes it more challenging for upper level 5th graders.

Measuring Angles Coloring Sheet
Common Core 4MD06 Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor.
Students must use a protractor to measure 11 angles. Distractor answers (common mistakes that students make when measuring) are present. Each answer will inform the students what color to use on the coloring page for that particular area.
