About the store
I have 31 years of teaching experience, 14 years in elementary 17 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. 17 years later I returned to elementary school where I am currently a math professional development coach in grades K-5. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.

This is a hands on performance activity where students will use real National Football League statistics from the 2020 season in order to calculate the decimal and percentage of successful kicks of several kickers. Students will read to perform a task in order to make a paper football. Students will fill in a data table to show the number of successful "kicks" of each member in their group. In this one page worksheet students are given the number of points the five starters have scored in a basketball game. They are then asked to find the mean, deviations, and mean absolute deviations. Finally, students are asked to think about what effect changing two of the point totals would have on the mean and mean absolute deviation.

Teaching style
Hands on, self-discovery, inquiry-based, real life applications, making sure students understand the "Why" of mathematics. Without a conceptual understanding, is there really understanding? I want to build thinkers vs mimickers.
