About the store
I have 31 years of teaching experience, 14 years in elementary 17 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. 17 years later I returned to elementary school where I am currently a math professional development coach in grades K-5. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.

Notes + coloring activity containing two pages of scaffolded notes with hints on how students can remember each of the angle types. The third page contains 12 problems, 8 of which require the students to color different angle pairs as well as answer questions regarding angle measures.
I created this document because I saw so many of my students not "seeing" complementary & supplementary angles within intersecting lines. This is a great visual for students.

Students see how simplifying expressions using the order of operations is related to solving two-step equations. Order of operations is like putting your socks on, then your shoes (multiply/divide then add/subtract). There are several ways to use the cards/items listed in the document (pairs check, independent practice, game, etc). Order of Operations Notes + Guided Practice Worksheet
This download includes two pages of notes introducing order of operations using G.E.M.S. and Mr. Multiplication/Division & Ms. Addition/Subtraction and one page of guided practice problems that include decimals. I've found this strategy to be really helpful when reinforcing that those operations are to be completed left to right. Two of the problems contain decimals which makes it more challenging for upper level 5th graders.

Measuring Angles Coloring Sheet
Common Core 4MD06 Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor.
Students must use a protractor to measure 11 angles. Distractor answers (common mistakes that students make when measuring) are present. Each answer will inform the students what color to use on the coloring page for that particular area. For example, for problem #1 students will color all areas on the coloring sheet marked #1 either yellow or dark green.

Much more fun than a boring worksheet, this coloring sheet requires students to answer 10 multiplying mixed numbers and fractions problems. Students have two choices for answers for each problem, one of which is a distractor (common error/mistake). Adding & Subtracting Integers Puzzle
This is a 16 problem activity where students answer addition and subtraction of integers problems. I used this fun puzzle activity right after I taught the concept, so the problems are relatively easy so that the students can experience success with the concept. Students must cut out the numbered puzzle pieces and glue them in the correct lettered squares according the answer table. Answer key/finished product is included.

In this 1 page, 6 question worksheet, students must read each word problem and circle any words that may be present that signal an operation (add, subtract, multiply, or divide), and then write that operation on the line. This ia 2 page, 16 problem set of dominoes. Cut out each horizontal row of cards and place them in a ziploc bag. Students will match each standard form number to its equivalent exponential notation end to end on the top of their work area. Standard from numbers are similar so as to keep students from just looking for the numbers and not paying attention to place value.

This activity has students going to 4 stations (5-8 minutes each) to complete 3 or 4 problems in each of the following categories: reducing to simplest form, changing mixed numbers to improper fractions, multiplying fractions and multiplying mixed numbers.

Hands on, self-discovery, inquiry-based, real life applications, making sure students understand the "Why" of mathematics. Without a conceptual understanding, is there really understanding? I want to build thinkers vs mimickers.
