I have 31 years of teaching experience, 14 years in elementary 17 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. 17 years later I returned to elementary school where I am currently a math professional development coach in grades K-5. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.

Angles ~ Complementary, Supplementary, Vertical & Adjacent ~ Common Core 7.G
Notes + coloring activity containing two pages of scaffolded notes with hints on how students can remember each of the angle types. The third page contains 12 problems, 8 of which require the students to color different angle pairs as well as answer questions regarding angle measures.
I created this document because I saw so many of my students not "seeing" complementary & supplementary angles within intersecting lines. This is a great visual for students.

Measuring Angles Coloring Sheet
Common Core 4MD06 Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor.
Students must use a protractor to measure 11 angles. Distractor answers (common mistakes that students make when measuring) are present. Each answer will inform the students what color to use on the coloring page for that particular area. For example, for problem #1 students will color all areas on the coloring sheet marked #1 either yellow or dark green.

Integrating math & art! Students are given specific directions on four separate drawings to include in their Angles in Art Portfolio. Each picture must have angles with the given measurements. Students must use a protractor to correctly draw each angle as listed in the directions sheet. One drawing has students making an angle bisector. Sample student projects are included.

Teaching style
Hands on, self-discovery, inquiry-based, real life applications, making sure students understand the "Why" of mathematics. Without a conceptual understanding, is there really understanding? I want to build thinkers vs mimickers.
