Using Chip Models to Discover Integer Addition Rules

Using "chips" and the concept of "zero pairs", students will generalize rules for adding pairs of integers whose signs are different by examining patterns. A walkthrough with basic steps for adding and subtracting integer Values.
STEP 1: If necessary/possible turn subtraction into addition.
REMEMBER:
Subtraction of a positive number is the same as adding the same negative value.
