Function Reading Practice [2.1 & 2.2] warm ups [CMU CSA CS1]

These 3 warm up exercises allow student to piece together the use of substitution of parameter variables with argument values as they read through abstract python functions. Note to Teacher: Display the above code on the screen. Distribute blank canvases (half sheets) to the class. Allow 3 - 5 minutes to attempt to draw the canvas independently in pencil. 2. Guide students in labeling parameters with argument values and writing out each command with the substituted values. 3. Draw the resulti

Color coding right triangles given a reference angle (trig ratios)

The first hurdle for my students when learning trig is identifying the sides of a right triangle in relation to a reference angle. A student who has all of the trig ratios memorized will still struggle if they can’t identify which side is opposite, adjacent, or the hypotenuse. This is a color coding activity where students identify the sides of a triangle given a reference angle. There are a variety of triangle shapes and orientations for kids to analyze. I find spending 10 minutes on this the f

I created these unplugged activities to give my students some practice with moving along a grid (up, down, left, right) You could use the cardinal movements (N,S,E,W) Each slide is a different theme. Students get to choose which slide they want to work on based on their interest. Some of the themes I include are: fairy tales, animals and nature. I was going to print the google slides, but can also be assigned to your online kids to be completed on a separate piece of paper or a google doc. You c

These join code cards for google classroom have directions on one side for students on how to join Google Classroom, and a place to put the join codes for each classroom on the other side. I used these myself when students had their drive through textbook pick up. I printed them on colored paper, laminated them, and added them to their textbook bag, so they could add their google classroom before the school year started. Made on Google slides, so it is completely customizable.
