Probability & Statistics: Pre-assessment and Exit Pass

Students often struggle with mathematical concepts because terms, formulas, and functions can be overwhelming. Moreover, mathematical vocabulary confuses students because math terms are content specific. Defining what those terms mean and how they are used helps students master content. The Probability & Statistics Vocabulary Survey can be used as a pre-assessment to evaluate students' prior knowledge. Data from this formative assessment will assist with grouping students and with planning ins

Chi Square Test Procedures GOF Independence Homogeneity of Proportions

This 50 question fill-in worksheet is related to a unit or lesson on Chi Square Test Procedures. The worksheet is a good 'startup' activity to introduce and/or supplement an existing discussion on three chi square test of hypothesis procedures for goodness of fit, independence, and homogeneity of proportions. You may use the activity as independent learning or allow students to table share as a quick collaborative startup activity for a unit on chi square test procedures for categorical and freq

Fill out a bracket, watch the tournament unfold and then mathematically analyze how you did! This activity is flexible enough to be used for a variety of levels. I have used all 6 pages for an AP Statistics class, and have used pages 1 through 5 for an Algebra or Algebra 2 class. You could even use it in lower levels as long as you are covering percents, and basic stats like mean, median, mode and graphing. The document is editable so you can adjust/delete to tailor to the level of statistic

Psychology Research Design: Correlations and Inferential Statistics

Engage students in a critical thinking activity that takes correlations and inferential statistics beyond simply words on a page. This psychology resource primes their learning with a vocabulary doodle note. Students then work collaboratively to arrange terms and justify their relationships in a hexagon card sort. Finally, students apply their understanding of correlation & statistics in an application activity that will surely spark discussion in your classroom. (Revised formatting and fonts

Probability of Compound Events (Guided Notes)

This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class. Students begin by learning what makes 2 events independent. After slowly working through a problem about rolling a die and choosing a card, they discover that they can multiply probabilities when working with these compound events. They then attempt problems involving picking marbles from a bag. Next, they learn about dependent events, and finally, mutually exclusive events. The last 2 pages are a copy of the key.

Bozeman Science Video Guide: The Chi Squared Test (no key), AP Bio, stats

I use Mr. Andersen's videos all the time in my AP Biology class as a precursor to my lectures. This is my write-a-long, or WAL as I call them, for his "Chi Squared Test" video. The WAL has students follow Mr. Andersen and are guided to write down importation information as he describes the Chi Squared equation and important terminology (like "null hypothesis"). I have the students pause the video shortly after he describes what a null hypothesis is to read a summary of the information, worded i

Budget Sheet Assignment

This sheet is a mock example of a person's expenses over the course of three months. It asks students to use technology like excel or google sheets to create tables of expenses. Then compare those tables with an average monthly spending budget sheet. This is mainly to be used to have students practice entering data into the spreadsheet and use the "sum" and "average" equations in the spreadsheet. Afterwards, the students can compare the expenses with the income to see if the budget is over or un

March Madness Tournament Simulation Activity

This is an activity that has students use included data (thru 2023) to run a simulation of the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament either using a random digit table or a graphing calculator. It is in a Word document so you can easily modify it to meet your needs. A blank bracket with seeds is included. The random digit table is not included, but these can easily be found on the internet and isn't necessary if you want to use a random number generator. I did this activity in my Statistics course
