This concise, to the point and no-prep function notation lesson is a great way to teach & introduce how to evaluate functions from graphs, tables and real world applications to your students. The beginning of the guided notes go over the basics of function notation and emphasis which part is the x-value and y-value. There are six example graphs/tables/real world situations that students then practice evaluating with function notation. Students and teachers love how easy these notes are to foll

Input/Output Tables - patterns, functions, algebra, input, output

This activity allows students to practice and/or review algebraic input/output functions. Students will cut and glue boxes to the appropriate spaces on the main handout. The last table provides an opportunity for students to retain what has been learned by making his or her own input/output table. Each student will recieve both a Input/Output Tables handout and a strip of boxes to cut out and glue onto the main handout. (There are 3 sets of boxes to cut out per page to help save on copies.)

"Exponential Functions" is designed as a teacher-led (we-do) activity/discussion to be used after a basic introduction to the idea of exponential patterns. Function notation is used. Part 1 - students explore two exponential graphs to find similarities and differences Part 2 - students practice evaluating exponential function rules. (This provides practice in understanding function notation as well as practice using the exponent keys on a calculator). Part 3 - students explore tables of exponen
