Tangent Lines Doodle Notes
Doodle note templates for tangent lines. I use this as a very basic introduction to tangent lines on the first day of AP Calculus. It's only meant to be a basic introduction to what they are, and a review of how to write equations of lines. It also covers using the line to make an approximation and drawing tangent lines. Students have no knowledge of derivatives therefore the slopes are given as equations. I usually supplement doodle notes with further examples and explanations as needed.

Finding Tangent Lines with Limits
This worksheet asks students to use the limit definition of the derivative (although the notion of the derivative is not mentioned yet) to find several slopes. In one part, students first graph a function and estimate the slope of the tangent line at a point before calculating it. In another part, students are given a function, asked to find the equation of a secant line, and then asked to find the equation of a tangent line.
This is appropriate for AP Calculus AB and BC.

This short worksheet reviews the slope formula, the point-slope form of a line, and the slope-intercept form of a line.
I use this as a preview assignment for Calculus students before they begin to investigate secant lines and tangent lines, usually assigning it the night before the lesson and then, depending on the students, either going over it at the beginning of class or letting the students self-check with the answer key.

This is a worksheet that helps to familiarize the student with tangent lines. No knowledge of derivatives is necessary to answer the questions on this worksheet. The student is asked to explore the idea of the tangent line to a graph qualitatively. In addition, the student is asked to draw in a tangent line and approximate its equation using two points on the line.
