Relations Flow Chart- Function, Linear, or Proportional? (ppt)

Created by
Rebecca Taylor
Every year my students struggle with whether or not a relation is a function, linear or proportional. They just can't remember the sequence of questions they must ask themselves! I created this powerpoint and flow chart for them to keep as a visual reminder. They're finally able to see how a relation must be a function before even questioning if its linear, and they see it must be linear before even questioing if its proportional! The pdf for this flowchart is available for FREE in my produc

Characteristics of Parent Functions

I looked all over for a chart that shows the characteristics of the parent functions and did not come up with anything that included everything I needed so I created this chart. It is six pages with each parent function on a separate page. The characteristics are domain, range, interval of increase, extrema, end behavior, y intercept, x intercept, rate of change, and symmetry. This was extremely helpful for my students when they were comparing the parent functions using a Venn diagram and stud

Alg.2/PC: Graphing power functions

This 4 page guided notes is designed for precalculs/alg. II. The idea is that students explore various power functions and summarize how "k" influences the graph, and how "a" influences the graph. I have used this with my students, and the organizational chart on page 3 really helps bring the idea together. I have attached a completed copy of the notes, so you can see what the end product is (I think it helps to see what I was thinking when I created these notes).

A flow chart with all of the trigonometric functions and a description of how to derive trigonometric relationships based on simple operations on the elements of the chart. As long as you know the set up of the flow chart and one or two very basic trig relationships (e.g. tangent = sine/cosine) then you can derive the analogous relationships for any other trig functions. For example, you can derive the Pythagorean Identities: by squaring two elements that are horizontally adjacent to each other

The recall device uses DRY MIX and TRAILS as acronyms to help Ss remember how variables are plotted on a graph, and standard format for a graph. The frame comparison helps students contrast rate of change, slope shape and written relationships of functions (y vs. x; y vs. x^2; y vs. 1/x, and so on). THREE (3) activities are included:
