"Fraction Feast" is a math project that encourages students to think critically about fractions in a real world context. This project has students select a recipe, double the ingredients, and halve the ingredients. Includes parent letter and rubric. Directions: Choose a recipe. Write the recipe and directions down on the provided sheet. Double the recipe. Triple the recipe. Use your own words to explain a situation in which you might need to double or triple a recipe. Why might you need to split a recipe in half? How will this math project help you in the future? This activity is a real world application of multiplying fractions. We take a recipe for chocolate chip muffins with many ingredients that are fractions and double it. Directions for how to use this activity, a labsheet for students to work on, a completed answer key, the full recipe (original and doubled). There are also QR codes and links to a video of the labsheet being worked out and to our playlist over multiplying fractions.
