AP Precalculus Project | Modeling Remediation Strategies for Contaminated Sites

Created by

In today’s world, the construction industry faces a major challenge: how to begin industrial building projects on contaminated land. Before construction can even start, the contaminated soil must be cleaned up safely, cost-effectively, and within a limited time. This is not only an engineering challenge but also a decision-making challenge where trade-offs between time, cost, and safety must be carefully balanced. The AP Precalculus Project: Modeling Remediation Strategies for Contaminated Cons

Give students a transparent tool to help them label triangles! Students often have trouble labeling parts (such as x, 2x, a, b, c, opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse, etc) of triangles for Special Triangles, Pythagorean Theorem, and Trigonometry. To help my students do this correctly, I give each student a labeled triangle printed on transparency film. Then when students are working on one of these types of problems, they line up their transparency with the problem on their paper. They line up

In many classrooms, students struggle to see how AP Precalculus connects to real-life problems that matter. Abstract formulas and static lessons often fail to engage students or show them how math shapes the world around them. The AP Precalculus in Action: Optimizing River Crossing Strategies Under Fire project solves this issue by transforming complex mathematical concepts into a high-stakes, hands-on military simulation where students become tactical decision-makers. In this AP Precalculus pr

I created this flow chart to help students navigate through angular and linear speed word problems. It is a simple formula, but they had trouble knowing when to convert, etc. The file is two pages, a blank flowchart for students, and one that has been filled in with the steps. Here is a type of problem that this resource applies to: "A wheel has an 18 cm diameter. The speed of a point on its rim is 9 m/s. What is its angular speed." OR something like: "A waterwheel has a 10 ft radius and r

This is in powerpoint format. Slide 1 is teacher notes. Slides 2 through 5 are what I use to teach proof strategies. slides 6-19 are handouts for students to complete - 1 proof per slide. I have students complete 3 per quarter. The first 2 are easy and then the proofs increase in difficulty. I use this in pre-calculus but it could also apply to a strong algebra 2 class or an ap calculus class. slide 20 shows an innovative way I have used to teach proof in the past with solutions on slide 21.

Trig Flow Chart for Journals

Students have to cut out the steps for using Trig versus Pythagorean and put them in their Journals. I do this with the class and try to get them to figure out what is next. The second page is the page for students. It has 2 sheets on it so you run half as many copies as needed.

Factoring Quadratic Equations is a key skill to master in order to both succeed in the base level college course as well as proceeding into higher level maths. This Powerpoint walks through a proven process of factoring Quadratic Equations using a mnemonic MFSD (Math Fella Saves the Day) to help students remember the order and steps in the process.
