FREE Math Pre-Assessment of Basic Skills: Grades 6-8
This is a FREE Math Pre-Assessment that I use in my Grade 7 classroom. It looks at basic skills - multiplication, division, rounding, place value, area, fractions, percents, decimals etc. It's surprising how many students even in Grade 8 or 9 who struggle with long division, for example. This short pre-assessment gives you a starting place for working with your students in September.

Looking for a fun way for students to learn addition and subtraction integer rules and apply them to addition problems? Students must solve 15 problems adding positive and negative numbers, choose the correct answer (A or B) and shade using the answer’s coordinating color. Free, quick, and easy to grade. My students improved from 47% to 63% proficient or advanced on the California State Test the year that I added 6 Algebra 1 mastery tests to my Algebra 2 curriculum (2011). I no longer teach Algebra 1 so I don’t have data for that. It can be used with manipulatives to solve the problems. Great for third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders.

FREE Mad Integer Minutes
Give students 3 minutes to complete as many integer problems as possible. Just like traditional Mad Minutes, give repeatedly to see growth. There are five columns, one for each operation and a fifth focusing on 3 term addition. You can measure growth overall or per column to determine where further practice is required. It can also be used as a homework assignment or enhancement tool.

We printed this double sided and laminated it for our students. It shows many of the concepts that we teach our year 7 & 8 maths students and is designed as a revision tool. Time, place value, fractions, division, array multiplication, double number line are a few of the concepts displayed but not algebra. The page is set up to be printed on A3 paper.
