Lecture: Sectionalism/antebellum era

This is the lecture I created to complement a wonderful TCI (Teacher's Curriculum Institute) simulated debate on sectionalism (1820-1861), which enables the students to understand why the U.S. engaged in the Civil War in April 1861. If you can't access TCI's simulated debate online for some reason (without buying the entire Civil War unit), this may be used in isolation as a lecture rather than as a complement to a simulated debate.

Notes: More historiographical reasons for U.S. entry into WWI

I gave this as a resource for students to outline an essay question, asking why the U.S. entered WWI.... This was designed to complement their textbook's information without having to assign additional research for students. I used this in my IB History of the Americas course, but it could also be used in a U.S. History course.

Glory (film questions)

I always showed this film during my U.S. Civil War units. Due to its R rating, it does require a parent permission slip (also attached to my dashboard). Its emphasis on the experience of Union African American soldiers is a wonderful complement to any unit on the Civil War.

Lecture: Effects of WWII on the U.S.

This is a lecture that is consistent with the IB History of the Americas curriculum for the WWII unit, but it will also work for any U.S. History course. One of the main purposes of IB History is to prepare students for their IB History exams, which are all essay based, during which they must wage a main argument, supported with evidence, to be complemented with a counterclaim, also supported with evidence. This lecture supports this goal. I tend to have students copy down everything in red a
