A common difficulty students have with multiplication is matching an array with the correct multiplication problem. It is important for students to understand that while 3 x 4 is equal to 4 x 3, their arrays will look different. 3 x 4 is illustrated with three rows of four, while 4 x 3 is has four rows of three.
