I created a Powerpoint for theEgyptian Pyramids. This item was originally created for a 6th grade class, but it could be used with students that range from 4th grade to 8th grade depending on academic levels. The Powerpoint includes many different pictures and videos that go along with each slide. The lesson took my students about 60 minutes to complete everything and talk about all of the slides in detail. The lesson also corresponds with the NYS standards and Common Core for grade 6 Social Stu
This Jeopardy Game is used to review all of module one for 6th grade math. The game reviews equivalent ratios/fractions, converting decimals, percent and fractions, the distance formula, solving percent problems and unit rate. This activity is a good way to break up your lesson from a boring worksheet and allow the students to get excited about what they are reviewing. Students also should have a team captain who will keep score for each group. For a little extra incentive you can also give extr
Students will fill in the grid given either a percent, decimal, ratio, or fraction. Prior knowledge if required to fill out this worksheet. This falls towards the end of module 1 (ratios) for the 6th grade common core in New York State.
Given a bag of M&Ms students will create fractions, decimals and percents based on the colors they have in their bags to prove or disprove the claim made by the M&M company. I gave my students regular M&Ms, peanut M&Ms and peanut butter M&Ms based on student's ability. There are less M&Ms in the peanut bags because they are bigger which means it was easier for struggling students to work with. You can place students in pairs with this activity or they can work independently depending on how much
This packet is based on NYS Module 1. Some questions were added and some were removed to add to the lessons that were already created. Lessons are numbered based on other modifications I have made for the rest of the original module.
This game is created using multiple questions revolving around finding percents. Students must decide whether they are missing the percent, part or whole and solve from there using proportions. Answers are provided to ensure that students aren't getting problems wrong. This way the learning is more in the student's hands than the teachers.
I worksheet that goes right along with the Egyptian Pyramids information students need to know in 6th grade. Students can search the internet for answers or teacher can do assignment with them. Lesson deals with creating a brochure for a community. This was originally taught to 3rd grade students and they love it. With in the lesson I have included standards and step by step directions for the students and teachers.
Students need to rewrite 12 problems by lining up their decimal points. Problems are mixed between subtraction and addition so students need to make sure that they are paying attention. This is a great review for all students.
This worksheet covers prime numbers. Students help the leprechaun find his pot of gold by finding all of the prime numbers in the large grid. The color his path yellow and everything else green. Students need to know their prime numbers (or it can be used as practice) to complete this activity.
This worksheet was created for students to take to the grocery store with them. The worksheet includes a list of items that the fictional character "Sarah," needs for her house. She only brought $55 with her and students need to decide if she has enough money to buy everything she needs. This activity addresses adding decimals, real world application, subtracting decimals and money. It is a great activity to give before a break because it gives students multiple days to complete it.

This is a lesson plan that goes into detail with the New York State Standards by reviewing the basics of rural, urban and sub-urban communities. Within the lesson the students will be conducting a scavenger hunt in order to practice their classification skills as well as the knowledge of communities. The assessment used for this lesson is whether or not students can accurately place the manipulative into the proper category.
Students use their knowledge of multiplying decimals to solve each problems and then color the corresponding sun based on whether or not the answers are odd or even. Easy review of a lesson and something bright to hang up around your classroom.
This worksheets helps students practice working with exponents. The second page of the worksheet allows student to use a calculator and practice entering them into the calculator. I would also cover that multiplying decimals or fractions times decimals or fractions makes them smaller as well as scientific notation which is used in the first example. Students need to practice entering numbers into the calculator exactly like they see them on the paper.
