A blank 16 x 20 grid that allows students to create their own word search or crossword puzzles. Creating word puzzles is a great activity to reinforce vocabulary, to include in an emergency substitute folder, or to assign to students as an enrichment project. This basic blank grid makes it easy for students to create their own activities.

If you've ever tried to contact a parent by phone regarding student behavior in the classroom, you know that, more often than not, the phone numbers listed in the computer are out of date and no good. I've found that sending a letter home is the fastest way to communicate with a parent about a child's behavior. This activity is a fun way for all students, even the young ones, to learn about and demonstrate some of the features that Word has to offer. A few of the skills they'll learn or practice are: text boxes, shapes, and text wrapping. Even my high school students enjoy creating, and then printing and coloring, this assignment. It would be the perfect addition to a sub folder.

This is the feedback form I leave with my lesson plans when I have a sub. It includes, for each class, a place for the substitute to fill in: -who was absent or tardy -how far they got in the lesson plan -who was helpful and who was a problem -what the students did well with and what they struggled with

A contract, signed by student and teacher, stating that: -student will practice proper keyboarding techniques -student will use proper posture and hand and body position -teacher will demonstrate proper techniques This contract would be useful in a keyboarding class, but also in any computer class or class that requires frequent computer use.
