About the store
I retired from a 30-year career as high school math teacher. I am actively involved in providing professional development for math teachers grades 4-12. My passion is helping students (of all ages) get through prior stumbling blocks to learning math in a meaningful way. It is very important to me that activities, presentations and all documents used for learning look professional. I have been a lead person in my district for creating benchmark exams used by thousands of students. I helped create a website for our teachers that contains classroom activities that are ready to use.

This version includes: halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, sevenths, eighths, ninths, tenths, elevenths, and twelfths. I ran this page off on both sides of a paper and put it inside a sheet protector. I gave one to each student along with a dry erase pen. If each bar represents a "one unit" I can ask students to shade a bar to represent a specific fraction. If I ask them to shade in ½, there will be multiple answers, which provides an opportunity to strengthen the discussion of equivalent f

This pyramid includes unit bar divisions from 2-12. I put two copies of this page (or run off double sided) inside a sheet protector, so there are four pyramids for students to work problems. I give one "sheet protector packet" to each student along with a dry erase pen. If the top bar represents a "one unit" I ask students to shade a bar to represent a specific fraction. If I ask them to shade in ½, there will be multiple answers, which provides an opportunity to strengthen the discussion of e

Experience

I retired from a 30-year career as high school math teacher. I am actively involved in providing professional development for math teachers grades 4-12. My passion is helping students (of all ages) get through prior stumbling blocks to learning math in a meaningful way. It is very important to me that activities, presentations and all documents used for learning look professional. I have been a lead person in my district for creating benchmark exams used by thousands of students. I helped create a website for our teachers that contains classroom activities that are ready to use.

Teaching style

Since I am a visual learner, I believe in using color to help accentuate connections in concepts. Besides including graphics with my activities, I try to present material in multiple modalities. I firmly believe that all students can learn math and excel in it. I have a "growth mindset," and work to help others understand how that can help them learn math. My favorite thing to say to any person who says, "I'm not good in math," is "You aren't good in math YET!"

My own education history

Masters of Arts and Bachelors of Science degrees in Mathematics from San José State University. Single Subject teaching credential in mathematics also from San José State University.

Additional biographical information

Did I mention that I love math? I have presented workshops at local, state and national conferences for math teachers for almost thirty years.
