Flame Test Lab

Students love Bunsen burners and love doing the flame test! This is a great way to show them the effect of electrons jumping to higher energy orbitals! I have the students test 7 known metal salts and then choose 2 unknowns which they will identify based on their known tests. Materials & Chemicals Used:Bunsen burnerwood splintsvarious metal salts - I use all chlorides (Na, Li, Ba, Cu (II), Sr, K, Ca) but you can use whatever you have availableI have all salts as unknowns except Cu (II) as they

Atomic Structure & Atomic Theory Stations Review

Students will go to 6 different stations to review what they have learned about atomic theory and atomic structure Station 1: they will identify on a picture of an atom the part of an atom that the weak force, strong force, and electromagnetic force affectStation 2: they will review isotope notation about how to calculate protons, neutrons, and electrons, what their masses and charges are, and who discovered each particleStation 3: they will calculate the average atomic mass of a fictitious ele

Acid, Base, Salt Indicators Lab

This is a great review lab activity for kids to practice using data to identify unknowns as acids, bases, or salts. Students identify 12 unknowns using red and blue litmus paper and phenolphthalein and then predict the pH for 3 of them. They end the activity with writing neutralization equations. To make it easy, I used water to represent each of the salts, weak HCl to represent each of the acids, and weak NaOH to represent each of the bases. Preview of Law of Conservation of Mass Lab

Law of Conservation of Mass Lab

This is a great way to introduce the law of conservation of mass and allows the kids to get in the lab and witness it for themselves! The lab is written to use sodium hydroxide and either zinc nitrate or cobalt (II) nitrate but you could modify based on what chemicals you have available. After completing the lab, students will be asked guided questions drawing on prior knowledge they have learned (evidence of a chemical reaction, types of chemical reactions, naming and writing chemical formulas)

Nomenclature: Naming Ionic and Covalent Compounds Worksheet

Students will practice naming both ionic (binary, multivalent metals, and polyatomic ions are included) and covalent compounds from chemical formulas. This worksheet is tiered; it begins with 6 ionic compounds, followed by 4 covalent compounds, and then a mixture of 24. It ends with the students writing a chemical equation. Preview of Organization of the Periodic Table by Color Coding

Organization of the Periodic Table by Color Coding

This resource makes learning the organization of the periodic table interactive and easy to understand! Students use a blank periodic table template to follow clear, step-by-step directions for color-coding and labeling key organizational parts of the table. As they complete the activity, they will identify important groups such as periods, groups, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, halogens, noble gases, transition metals, and rare earth metals. The finished p
Preview of Identifying the three type of levers

Identifying the three type of levers

This worksheet provides targeted practice for identifying the three classes of levers. Students analyze diagrams to determine whether each lever is first-class, second-class, or third-class based on the positions of the fulcrum, load, and effort, which they are asked to label. Students may also choose to cut out the examples and organize them in a science notebook for reference and review. This resource supports reinforcement of key concepts and can be used for independent practice, review, or a

Compare RNA & DNA

DNA vs. RNA Note Sheet – Structure & Function ComparisonSupport students' understanding of key molecular biology concepts with this clear, engaging note sheet that compares DNA and RNA. This resource helps learners analyze both similarities and differences in structure and function, building a strong foundation for genetics and protein synthesis. Students will explore essential features such as: Double-stranded DNA vs. single-stranded RNASugar types (deoxyribose vs. ribose)Nitrogen base similari

Coloring Families of the Periodic Table

Students will color the different families of the periodic table: alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, halogens, transition elements, metalloids, rare earth elements, other/lesser metals, other nonmetals, and noble gases. They will also identify which are liquids and gases and which are man-made elements. Included: periodic table to color direction sheet.
