Learning to distinguish long and short vowel sounds creates a foundation for future literacy development. Use this word sort activity to give students an opportunity to identify differences in words containing "ee" and "ea" to produce the long "e" sound in words. There are two cards for every word, so students can engage in a matching game prior to sorting the words. As the children review the picture cards in this activity, they will identify the shape of each item and determine which category the item should be placed in.
