About the store
I am a writer , editor, and 30+-year Corporate Client Relations veteran with experience teaching in the classroom, in the boardroom, and in volunteer positions teaching English, horseback riding as therapy, as well as figure skating to children and adults. My love of teaching began when I was eleven and would help my nursery school teachers on my afternoons off during curriculum days. From there I volunteered as noted above throughout middle school, high school, and college. During my corporate years, I taught a multitude of topics in various capacities and on various levels of formality. As an editor, I work 1-on-1 with authors (specializing in non-native-English-speakers), teaching the finer points of the English language that make or break the finished product. Currently, I am teaching English on-line to children and adults, as well as for companies offering language learning to their employees.

Experience

Teaching style

My teaching style looks at the learning of a topic from a 360 degree viewpoint; taking in the various areas of life that are affected by the subject at hand. I work with each of my students to uncover individual learning styles, topics of interest and of disinterest, reasons for studying the particular subject, and what the student hopes to gain from doing so. With this information, I find common threads and interweave the formal learning aspect with personal discovery through extensive discussion and exposure to unexpected sources of learning (for example, the correlation of music as a language with the need Humans have to make their message, their story known). My goal as a teacher, beyond teaching the subject at hand, is to prepare the student to continue learning beyond our time together; to tap into the innate desire to better oneself and give some direction for the journey.
