Experimental vs. Theoretical Probability Dice Experiment

Created by
Algebra Queen
After teaching theoretical vs. experimental probability to my Geometry students, I have them work on this dice experiment to show them the difference between the two. In this experiment, students roll two dice (there is an online dice simulator linked in the Google Doc) 50 times and record the sum of the dice and answer questions about their experimental probability for each sum. Students then calculate the theoretical probability of what the sums of the dice should show. At the end of the exper

This end of unit project allows for students to create their own questions and ask their peers to answer a survey created by them. They will then take the results of the survey and analyze the results in a variety of different ways. I created this project in Google Docs, so you are able to change or customize anything you may need to. You can use this as a printable project for in-person learners, or students can type their answers directly into the Google Doc for hybrid or remote learners. The

In this product, students are given an interactive Google Doc in which they watch a video and read instructions for the task at hand. With a deck of cards (there is a virtual option on the Google Doc), they will pick the given number of cards randomly from the deck and find the mean, median, mode, and range of the numbers. This allows for randomization as well as student choice. *You can modify this activity by adding more rounds with varying amount of cards to be chosen from the deck.*

In this interactive Google Doc, students answer questions about the basics of probability: what is it, where do we see it in everyday life, vocabulary terms, etc. I give this assignment to my Geometry students directly following our first lesson on probability to ensure they have a grasp on the basic concepts before moving into more complicated instances of probability.
