Because of Winn-Dixie Reading Response Journal

Personally, I love all books that have a dog in them as one of the main characters. However, there is something about Winn-Dixie that pulls at my heartstrings a little tighter than Old Yeller ever did. My fourth-graders LOVE this book. There are so many thought provoking questions that arise from this book and I wanted to create questions in the form of a journal. This way the students can answer basic comprehension questions and also express their deeper thoughts as the novel progresses. I ha

This trifold is great for biography studies. This is perfect for the Who Was or I Am biography series. There are two printing options available for you to choose from. I have also provided a grading rubric to help you with grading. Even if you choose not to use this as a final project it is a great graphic organizer to help students find the appropriate information for biography projects.

Every year I dread teaching and re-teaching students how to cite text-based evidence. Most of the time they know that they need to find the answer in the text, but they cannot cite text evidence properly. These sentence starters stay on my board all year long to give assistance to those students who struggle with citing text-based evidence. With these sentence starters any student can be a text-based evidence master. I have 3 different options available for you decide which one you like best.

We all know that collecting makeup work can be a disaster! To make that necessary evil easier, I created this form to make it less of a hassle. The teacher fills out this cover sheet and attaches any work that needs to be completed to the cover page. I place these on the absent student's desk usually desk and they collect the the work when they return from school. I also keep these at my desk and review the make up work with the students. This is great for teachers who are self-contained, depa

Let's face it....sometimes teaching the four types of sentences can be a little boring. Why not make it into something a little more exciting with an easy game. This is a low prep, but highly effective game to review the four different types of sentences. In my classroom we distinguish them by: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. However, you can call them statement, question, command, and exclamatory. The sentences DO NOT HAVE PUNCTUATION MARKS. The purpose is for student

One of the most basic grammar standards is determining the difference between sentences and fragments. These task cards are great to help students determine the difference. There are so many ways to use them to meet the needs of you and your classroom. You can use these whole group, small group, playing SCOOT, or even adding them to your digital presentations. I hope you enjoy these for your classroom.

Each year I give a reading survey to my students to find out each student's reading confidence, likes, dislikes, favorite genres, favorite authors, etc. Not only will this survey give you a better feel of your classes reading attitude it will help you create a love of reading in your students. This is a great tool to have at the beginning of the year to help guide your readers to books geared towards their interests. You can keep these in a folder and reference back to it as the year progresses.

Experience

This year will be my six year teaching fourth-grade. For the past five years I have been teaching ELA all day! I also worked for two years in our school computer lab with Kindergarten, first, and fifth grade students. For the past eight years I have worked in my school's After School program with Kindergarten students up to sixth grade students.

Teaching style

My style of teaching changes every year depending on what type of students I have in my classroom. I do not think that students should "sit and get" information all day long. I try to make my lessons exciting and relevant. I read aloud to my students EVERY SINGLE DAY! And yes, I do all of the voices. My goal is to make each lesson memorable to say that they truly learned in my classroom!
