Experience

I am a former teacher that taught secondary math for 11 years. 5 total in the classroom; 6 as an instructional coach.

Teaching style

I use a lot of PowerPoints because having problems pre-made and animated free me up to move about the room and be in close proximity to students who need help and/or have behavioral challenges. I also utilize whiteboards daily when I am teaching. At each step of the problem students mirror what I am doing on their boards and show me. Then it gets transferred to their notes. Immediately after students will do the next problem step-by-step on their boards again with me guiding them through the steps. Finally students will complete a third problem independently on their whiteboards and show me after the timer. We'll either do a whole-group or turn and talk discussion on the different answers (or misconceptions) that are present on the boards.

Additional biographical information

Almighty Algebra was founded by me in 2020. I am an alumni of the Teach for America 2013 Mississippi Delta Corps. I have worked in education for 12+ years now and I have taught everything from Middle School Pre-Algebra to Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I have also served as an instructional coach and lead teacher in Dallas ISD, one of the largest districts in the state of Texas. As a beginning educator, one of my biggest struggles was finding good resources to use in my lessons. I tried pulling questions from the textbooks, from the internet, or from other teachers. The material I was finding was either not aligned to the state standards, not rigorous enough, or not lengthy enough to fill up a 90-minute block. Every other night was a struggle! Eventually I gave in and decided to create my own resources by scratch. Everything I've made is backwards designed from released items on the end-of-year STAAR exam. If it's ever been tested, I wanted my kids to practice it. My test scores were amazing and the feedback I received on my materials was overwhelmingly positive. Thus, Almighty Algebra was born. ♥️ Almighty Algebra is 100% aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), but the resources may be transferred on a standard-by-standard basis to the objectives used in other states. CCSS are listed.
