About the store
As a recent winter graduate of Otterbein University, I am excited to begin my teaching career. I am currently certified in 7-12 Integrated Mathematics and pursing a K-12 Spanish license. My most recent classroom experience occurred during the spring of 2017 when I was placed at a local suburban high school to teach both mathematics and Spanish courses as a student teacher. In conjunction with teaching, I devoted two years of my undergraduate experience to completing an honors thesis focused on defining project-based learning and high-quality mathematics instruction. Likewise, a summer study abroad adventure in Costa Rica allowed me to grow personally and professionally. While daily courses in language and culture focused on refining my language skills, a weekly placement at a local high school provided me the opportunity to help native Spanish-speakers practice English. Though initially challenging to shift between two drastically different content areas, field placements and personal endeavors revealed my passion for both the logic of mathematics and culture of foreign language. My hope as a teacher is to use these experiences to combine authentic connections to the real-world and communities of learners to position students to become life-long learners.

Transforming Equations

In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to investigate the effects of changing coefficients and added values on equations and their graphs using Desmos, a free, online graphing calculator. This lesson follows a P.E.E.R. format - predict, explore, explain, reflect - for math education. The worksheet can be given to students to initiate a self-led explorations of equations and their corresponding graphs as they undergo changes with respect to the x-value or the equation as a whole. Teaching style

I believe the best way to develop learners is through hands-on education with an emphasis on the importance of learning within a community. Together, as a community of scholars, we are able to foster individual growth in tandem with community development.
