Heart words (previously termed "sight words") are irregularly spelled words frequently found in text. Research shows that students should be explicitly taught the grapheme-phoneme correspondences of these words, especially the "tricky" part. This resource provides worksheets for students to practice the "sight words" introduced in Sonday System 1 using heart word mapping strategies.
Just like everything I put on Teachers Pay Teachers, this resource started out as something I really needed for a student but just couldn't find online. Research shows that students need many repetitions of a skill or concept before finding mastery, and this is particularly true for my students with Special Needs, my English Learners, and students who need Tier 2 and 3 intervention. I love working with the SIPPS program, but I felt like it was never giving students enough practice with the new s
This is a great resource for teaching and practicing using the "fab-4" reading comprehension strategies: Clarify, Predict, Question, and Summarize. I love to use these cards to get my students feeling comfortable participating in our group discussions about books.
The digital download includes one page with the four cards. I chose to glue mine to colorful paper and tie together with a string, as pictured in the preview, but there are many different ways these tools can be utilized in the class
This is a great resource for students to engage in reciprocal teaching and comprehension strategies while reading. This graphic organizer works as the first step in teaching students the 5-finger recall strategy for summarizing nonfiction text. The visual helps students remember what information is paired with each finger. Use the boxes for students to write their notes, then encourage them to practice the strategy orally, referring to their notes if needed. I use this graphic organizer with my students with learning disabilities and am excited about how well it helps them make the connection.

These posters provide a quick reference for students and teachers regarding the six-syllable types: Closed, Open, Magic-E, Cle, Vowel Pair, and R-Controlled. Each page includes a quick description of the syllable type and clearly outlined examples of each type of syllable.

This scavenger hunt provides opportunities for students to dive deep into high interest mentor texts in order to become more familiar with the many elements of different narratives. Use for personal narratives, realistic fiction, and fiction stories to give students chances to compare the elements of each. Students can work individually or in a group to see who can investigate to find the most elements! You can even have your students use this scavenger hunt on their own or others' writing as a

These anchor charts are made to fit inside student-sized notebooks to provide visual support and reminders for paragraph writing. I use these with my Resource students who benefit from visual reminders. I pair this with my Step by Step Paragraph Writing resource and have seen great success!
This resource is meant to support students in the often difficult process of paragraph writing. As a Resource Specialist, I have constantly struggled to find a writing resource that scaffolds paragraph writing for all of the different writing genres: Summary (Fiction), Summary (Nonfiction), Narrative, Informational, and Opinion/Persuasive. As students become familiar with the steps, they become more and more independent in producing paragraphs of all writing genres. For my 5th grade students, by

This is a quick visual reference for students learning to write letters or struggling with appropriate letter formation. With two visuals per page, these are small visuals that can be taped to a student's desk, put in their writing folder, put on a ring with other letter writing visuals, etc.
These bookmarks are great for students to utilize while reading to support comprehension. I use these for my RSP students who struggle to remember longer chapter books and informational text.
This is a great visual to support students in recognizing what operation to use in a word problem. It covers what word problems may sound like, or look like in a model drawing.
These data sheets are great for taking IEP goal data and representing that data in a clear, visible way that makes it easy to see trends. These sheets can be flexibly used to fit the goal type; for example, I use mine for writing goals that call for XX out XX trials as well as more discrete skills. Also, multiple skills can be tracked at the same time if desired. These sheets are great to share with teachers and parents as a quick way to show progress.
