Sight Word Activities Pre-Primer List
These activities were originally created with reading and writing of sight words in mind, but has well surpassed the original plan. Each activity uses pictures to formulate a small story and then uses a cloze activity to reinforce writing of the sight words and then onto using those sight words in a student's own sentence using provided pictures. These two interactive books were created for use in combination with other classroom activities promoting self-regulation. One targets personal space and hands off, while the other book targets task resistance. Embedded YES/NO questions and positive verbiage to promote functional language skills while encouraging positive behaviors.

Color coding for visual learners makes this a great tool for guiding students step by step through problem solving. Generating into a Promethean Board or SmartBoard activity allow students to "visualize" solution.

Sight Word Data Collection Excel Sheets
This is a data collection Excel file created for monitoring reading and writing of sight words. It can be used electronically or printed out to collect/use your data. (Note: When printing you will want to include gridlines.) Upper portion of each sheet may be used to identify dates of testing for one student, or the upper portion can be used to identify a number of students across the top to identify words that need to be worked with in small or whole group.

This is an interactive book that takes a child from school arrival to unpacking, and preparing to learn. Positive verbiage "I can do it!" is used throughout. It was designed for the young learner who needs visual supports to access expectations. Due to difference in how a student may arrive at school I have created one that is for a child who is parent drop off and alternate pages for a child who rides a bus to school.

Personalized Ordinal Center
Personalized writing and ordinal position activity for the reluctant learner. I use this center to provide student practice identifying ordinal position, proper capitalization of names, and using complete sentences to notate response. I have left it in a word document so that each teacher can modify as necessary for individual learner interest. You may choose to have students affix the proper character and position and/or have them rewrite on a paper copy for writing practice. Please note:

These mats are created for physical manipulation of base ten cubes and rods to further understanding of place value in regrouping through hands on learning and the use of step by step directions.

Top to Bottom Writing Organizer
This is a writing organizer that provides visuals for the students (top to bottom triangle)as they are planning and completing rough drafts of their work. (The rough draft template is set up in a lined adaptive paper format.) A template for "My favorite thing to do this summer" is provided as well as a template with topic sentence and closing sentence areas for teacher provided prompts.

Noticing patterns in contractions
This is an introductory lesson that can be used prior to teaching contractions by having students identify what they "see" or "notice" about the words when they are "pushed" together to form a contraction. I used this to prompt students to identify what the apostrophe consistently takes the place of when using not, have, would, will, etc.

Teaching style
I am a hands on person and love utilizing the Promethean Board creating my own flip charts with visuals, ActivExpressions, and utilize Kurzweil for read aloud accommodations for students. I create different activities based on students' needs and believe in differentiation to meet all students' needs. I utilize technology and student participation to making learning fun. Sitting or standing and lecturing is not my style. I believe in modeling, student feedback and being on the move during instruction.

My own education history
It took me 28 years to complete my teaching degree working around the needs of my family. Attended colleges in PA, WA and VA.
