Additional biographical information

I have helped to rehabilitate hundreds of at-risk and gang involved students. In May 2013, I assisted 37 documented gang members take a major step in redirecting their lives. All 37 students obtained a high school diploma, 16 enrolled in college, 8 joined the military and 13 were helped to obtain legitimate employment. However, my most valuable connection with youth gangs was obtained prior to my professional life. As a former gang member, I learned firsthand the destruction of the lifestyle. At the age of sixteen, I was expelled from school for exhibiting violent gang activity. Being that my gang leader was the only father figure I knew, I followed his steps into a life of drugs and crime. After being sent to juvenile corrections several times and losing two of my best friends to gang violence, God opened my heart and mind. Through the support of a positive mentor, I escaped the gang lifestyle. I went on to obtain my G.E.D. and successfully complete two post-secondary educational programs. Attending college separated me physically and mentally from the gang culture of my community. Education literally saved my life. After receiving my degree, I was dedicated to sharing the gift of education and repaying the debt I owed to my mentor and community. My first job was at the same high school from which I was expelled.
