This is a reference poster to serve as a visual reminder for students to use O.D.I.P. when writing or talking about art. O.D.I.P stands for Observe, Describe, Interrupt and Prove. I have this poster printed large next to my Smartboard to refer to as we discuss new works of art. The deeper conversations on the works of art help develop critical thinking skills.

This is a worksheet I created to have students try out watercolor technique before applying them to their actual project. As a class, we talked about the technique, I demonstrated the technique and then they tried it on their own. Students are then able to assess whether or not they would like to use this technique on their actual project.

Experience

Teaching style

My responsibility as an educator is not only to present the knowledge needed but to provide the encouragement and support for each student to achieve personal success. Since students learn in so many different ways, it is my job as an educator to be equipped to use different teaching styles based on the needs of the child. Students are encouraged to explore mediums as well as different approaches to learning, which helps to develop personal growth in creation, imagination and problem solving skills. My goal is not for everyone of my students to become famous artists (although that would be amazing!) rather my goal is to have each one of my students looking at the world in a slightly different manner, to appreciate the art and history that surrounds us, to question, explore and develop their own thoughts and ideas and be able to support their conclusions. My goal is to help develop a well rounded student so he or she can walk out into the world and be an active and educated part of society.
