Fix Up Strategies make all the difference for struggling readers. These strategies give readers a place to begin when their comprehension breaks down and the text doesn’t make sense. The following 10 Fix Up Strategy clipboards were created with several small groups of struggling readers. As a group, we worked together to discuss the why and how of each strategy and wrote it in our (the group of students) language thus creating the clipboards. As a first grade teacher, I designed the Reading Strategy Hand to help my students solve unknown words. Whenever they do not know a word they start with the thumb strategy and work through the strategies on each finger in order. After a while, students automatically know which strategy is on which finger and can use the strategies independently (without the paper or while reading by themselves). The Pumpkin Book Writing Stationary is great for October/pumpkin writing topics. This set comes with: -a title page -a student pumpkin word wall (that includes basic sight words for informational writing about pumpkins -2 different sizes of writing stationary (smaller and bigger lines) Have students create their own fiction or informational book about pumpkins. Fry's First & Second Hundred Words - Word Wall Posters These posters include almost all of the first and second hundred of Fry's Words (minus the really easy ones for the most popular letters...I ran out of space). I print, laminate, and post them on the wall so students can refer to the words during writing. I use a permanent or dry eraser marker to add more words through out the year.

Peggy Penguin’s Plural Rules is a set of posters which include the rules for changing singular words into their plural forms. I am currently using these posters to help my 3rd and 4th graders read and write plural words. The posters are in PDF form. Posters are the size of half a letter size sheet of paper. Alphabet Line Includes: 8 ½ by 11 PDF of each letter of the alphabet listed below. You can manipulate print size by printing multiple pages on one page. I like to print each letter on copy paper, cut them out and glue it on blue and red cardstock. Blue for consonants and red for vowels. The letters really pop in the classroom if you have blue and red background. Also, I print two letters to a page for my guided reading area and eight letters to a page for my word wall.
