I created this visual for a student who had a difficult time interrupting during group instruction. Dependent on the expectations of each activity within the day, I switch the icon to indicate what a student should be doing communication wise (be quiet- no sounds while walking in the hallway, wait- it's not my turn yet and I need to listen to others in the group, talk- it's my turn to share my thinking). Have students put paint on their thumbs and make two thumb prints. Allow to dry. Once dry, you may add eyes, mouth, arms, legs etc. to turn the thumbs into stick figures! See example.
