About the store
Over the past 30 years, I have taught students ranging in age from 3-18. I am presently retired. I have 28 years of experience working with preschool children with disabilities; specifically children on the autism spectrum. I have also worked with multi-handicapped children who have had varying disabilities. I've taught social skills to students at the elementary, middle school and high school level. I have taught a special education course at Kent State University, Ashtabula, Ohio Branch. I have conducted trainings on teaching children with autism and sensory integration disorders. I also have formed and conducted parent support groups for my present school district.

The first step to getting to know a child on the autism spectrum is to find out about their FAVORITES. Once parents/caregivers complete this form, teachers will know how to motivate students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Since these students often have limited interests, this form is a "must have" to be successful in teaching and dealing with our ever growing population of children labeled with an ASD.

Experience

Teaching style

I believe that young children are kinesthetic, hands on learners. I provide my students with experiential learning activities. My daily routine rotates between sitting and movement activities. I provide my students with sensory integration activities to keep their systems running at an optimal state for learning.

Additional biographical information

I have been an instructor for the American Red Cross in Water Safety, Adapted Aquatics and Canoeing. Have taught Sunday School for Kingsville United Presbyterian Church. I have also served on the church board of deacons and elders.
