I have been teaching for 9 years in a title one school. After my first year of teaching I looped up with my Kindergarteners to first grade, which was a wonderful experience. I then went back to Kindergarten where I truely love it.
Teacher Prep: Students need two dice and counters. Print
out mats and laminate.
Directions: Students pick the mats according to what game
they will play (one more or one less). Player one tosses the dice
and adds them up. The will then decide what number is one more
or one less and put a counter on that number. Players take turns
tossing dice and placing counters on game boards. The player
that has four counters in a row is the winner.
Jungle roll helps students master the common core standard K.CC.2, which is counting on. Students roll a die and write the number on the die. They then write the 3 numbers that follow.
This game helps students master the common core math standards K.CC.6 and K.CC.7, which are identifing numbers that are greater, less than, or equal to and comparing numbers in written form.
K.CC.1
Players: 2 to 4
Objective: Students will learn coordinates, number recognition, and letter identification.
Teacher Prep: 2 dice- one regular and one programmed with the letters A-F. Print out four of the mats for four players.
Directions:
Each student needs 10 counters. Players take turns rolling the dice and finding the coordinates. They put a counter on the coordinates rolled. The first player to use all counters is the winner.
Standards: SWBAT: Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtractions as taking apart and taking from.
K.OA.1- represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, action out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
K.OA.2- Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, eg., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Materials: 2 counters per student, worksheet
Directions: Use a 10 sided die or label a die with random numbers. Students will write down the number on the first blank and then write the numbers that come after. You could also label 5 dice with different numbers and students pick one die for each number on the recording sheet. Below are labels for the box.
Teacher Prep: Copy the recording sheet and cut in half. You can either laminate it or make multiple copies for students. Prepare the dice.
