Students require a basic understanding of 'doubles ( 4+4, 9+9 ...) and squares (4x4, 9x9 ...) of numbers' when learning their multiplication tables. I used this sheet with a fairytale done first on the overhead, then handed out and done together, then done independently with a fairytale I read. This retell sheet has coloured bookmarks that go with the practice sheet. When done at school, this strategy can be practiced alone or with a learning partner. Bookmarks can be sent home when the child knows how to use it so that the child can practice the retelling strategy at home.

Emergency Preparedness for primary level students. Have a conversation at the beginning of the year about the process of an emergency drill. A web brainstorm where ideas can be organised prior to writing a paragraph. When children have difficulties writing, this is the step often forgotten. Fill in the spaces and facts to support, then write from the middle out. One sentence for each fact. Three sentences in a paragraph. Easily taught that can work with a student until they graduate! Just keep dividing the subtopics by 3 more!
