This is a great multiday lesson where students learn the basics of neurons, their structure, and how action potentials occur and are used to release neurotransmitters. There are three primary resources: a google slide show, and introductory fill in doc that corresponds to the slideshow, and a doc with instructions and guiding questions that lead students through an online action potential simulator. Both docs include keys.
Remember that lame 'lab' we all did when we just used PTC paper to test for dominant or recessive alleles, made a punnet square and called it a day? Those days are gone. This lab is engaging, has flare, and incorporates modern day microbiology techniques and skills that students will take with them to the next level. They will remember extracting their own DNA, using PCR to make millions of copies of their PTC allele, then cutting it using restriction enzymes to digest their DNA, and finally
All in one dissection instruction/diagram/student assessment docs for high school and college level dissections (sheep brain, cow eye, chicken wing, long bone, sheep heart, rat, fetal pig). Each dissection contains its own instruction doc complete with pictures, labeled diagrams, video links (sheep brain, cow eye, long bone, chicken wing, & heart only), and student assessments.
This is a phenomena driven unit that covers biochemistry basics and its relation to cellular functions; respiration; photosynthesis; and cellular transport. What makes these bundles unique is the student centered pedagogy that moves the unit along. Please have a LISTEN TO MY VIDEO PREVIEW to get a sense for what I consider one of the most effective student driven phenomena centered NGSS units you will find. This is PART 1 of a 3 PART BUNDLE. This is a stand alone lesson that uses color printed handouts (from Bio Rad) to work through a collaborative simulation. Students use an instructional guide to simulate the process of gene editing. The guide contains both information about the process and questions to drive inquiry. This is an excellent addition to my 'Out of the Blue' CRISPR editing lab. This lesson contains a lesson plan; google slides (with Nearpod slides) color cutout doc; and a guided instruction doc with questions
