About the store
I embarked on my teaching career over ten years ago, but in my second through fourths years I taught 6th-12th English Language Arts and revived an academic team. With 7 preps in my first four years, I learned a lot about the teaching field, the English language, and especially myself!
I now work at the secondary private school level teaching humanities. My course incorporates English Language Arts, History, and Bible (and a little of anything else that falls between!)

Understanding prefixes, suffixes, and root words can greatly expand vocabulary. This is an introductory study guide and quiz set that sets the pace with more commonly used prefixes. It also includes 5 vocabulary words which contain the prefixes/stems of the week.

Practicing Essay Hooks
Sometimes the hardest part of an essay is getting students to write an exciting and intriguing hook (or eye-catcher).
This worksheet does several things and is editable to fit your students' levels and needs!
First, I assign an essay and tell the students that after developing their thesis, they will write 4 different hooks to choose from.
This assignment also encourages the use of other literary techniques such as imagery, parallelism, allusion, etc.

Teaching style
I am all about helping students understand the real world application to what they are learning. I want them to make sense of what happens in the classroom in such a way that they can apply it to their own world. Like my own favorite English teacher, Rhonda Howard, my mantra is that in my classroom we will "Read on the lines, between the lines, and beyond the lines."
